Wildlife Conservation Center
For animal lovers visiting Alaska, the best place to see some of the most beautiful creatures native to the region is at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. This non-profit organization was created in 1993 and has cared for more than 1000 animals. The center provides refuge for orphaned, injured or ill animals, rehabilitating as many as possible as well as caring for Alaska's endangered species. Currently they are working on a state recovery program to reintroduce the endangered subspecies "wood bison" in the Alaskan interior. They hope to create a herd of more than four and a half thousand wood bison. On the date this segment was shot, Kenny Loggins and several celebrities were visiting the center to see a number of bison, moose, elk, sitka deer, brown bears, grizzly bears and a number of smaller animals such as porcupines, coyote, and one wing owls and eagles. The center cares for more than 20 orphaned animals each year, releasing as many as possible back into the wild. Kenny Loggins released a bald eagle back into the wild. Please note that your cash donation to Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center may be tax deductible.
